Segera Retreat, Laikipia, Kenya

Wild luxury on the savannah with Mt. Kenya as the backdrop

Segera Retreat is one of the wildest and most unique safari lodges in Africa. Owned by philanthropist Jochen Zeitz, who has not only created a lodge at the highest level in one of the most beautiful game areas in Kenya, he has created a holistic experience built around some very strong values that benefit the local community, nature, and wildlife.

Safari by helicopter and overnight in a bird's nest

The experiences range from classic game drives day and night to safaris on foot or even by helicopter. School visits, a trip with the rangers patrolling poaching, or one of the many other efforts that evolve around the local community are also on the list.

Or how about spending the night in the open air in Nay Palad Birdnest - a magical tower where the top is shaped like a giant bird's nest.

But Segera Retreat also stands out by not having the usual, scheduled activities of the safari industry. Here you go on a game drive whenever and if you feel like it. And there is not a bell ringing when the food is ready.

In this way, it is more likely that you combine activities and experiences with just hanging out and relaxing by the pool. Therefore, it is also quite ideal for families who do not fit into a classic safari setup.

This is tailormade and 100% personalized in the word’s best meaning. Segera makes the experience around each guest's interests. Not the other way around.

Wild and unpretentious luxury

The decor, architecture, and design are wildly luxurious in the really “cool way,” where the food, service, and atmosphere on the one hand are sublime and on the other hand wildly unpretentious. An ambiance that is unequaled.

Segera only consists of 8 villas to choose from. 6 garden villas in the large garden - all with easy access to the pool in the middle of the garden. And 2 large, more private villas with several bedrooms and a private pool that are perfect for large families or generational travel.

A role model for future tourism

Segera Retreat is the birthplace of The Long Run - Jochen Zeitz's tourism NGO, which works with sustainability in the travel industry. This is also where the organization's 4 Cs have developed; Conservation - Community - Culture - Commerce

Lars and Jakob has for long worked closely with The Long Run and know Zeitz and manager Jens from here. And are deeply fascinated by their work in combining the unique and authentic experience with an uncompromising focus on social responsibility and sustainability.

Segera Retreat is globally seen as a point of reference in redefining tourism and luxury, and not least local community involvement to a level we have not seen elsewhere.
